Introduction

«Shalom Center» is an Apostolic and Prophetic ministry that consists of a «House of Prayer» (4th floor) and «The Church of the Holy Spirit» (3rd floor). We are under the spiritual oversight of the international ministry «New Wineskins Ministries», and the responsibility of Pastors Alex & Sharmaine Meek (Melbourne, Australia). Founders and Pastors are George and Evi Markakis. Both Pastors are ordained by representatives of the local and international Body of the Lord Jesus Christ, and have been positioned by laying on of hands in the governmental office of the «Prophet to the nations».

Name "SHALOM CENTER"

It is the name the Lord gave for this place of ministry, on October 2, 2003. The founder and director Rev. George E. Markakis was planning to call it "Bethel House of Prayer", but the Lord said during a time of corporate prayer: "Not Bethel, Shalom Center". "Bethel" meant to communicate "open heaven" and "living communication with the Lord" -those remain lasting characteristics of "Shalom Center"; many people have testified to their own experiences of having open heaven and receiving living communication from the Lord in this place of ministry, which the Lord called into being, and has established since December 20, 2003, when the official dedication took place.

The Hebrew word "shalom" means "peace", but it also communicates much more than that. Jesus said to His disciples:
"John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

The Peace of the Lord is a different concept than the peace of the world. A lexicon translation of the Hebrew word shalom reads: "completeness, soundness, welfare, peace, safety, welfare, health, prosperity, quiet, tranquillity, contentment, friendship, peace of human relationships, and with God especially in covenant relationship". There is no word in Greek or English that incorporates all that.

As much as open heaven and living communication are foundational in how we relate to our God, His shalom-peace descending upon us is an unfailing characteristic that follows His loving flow of favor and fatherly touch. Our God is a God of Peace, whose name among other names was given to us by Isaiah (9:6), as Prince of Peace - Sar Shalom! Part of the physical manifestations of His divine peace descending upon us is the need to remain quiet for long in His Presence, waiting upon Him... as it is written:

Psalm 27:14 Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!

Isaiah 40:31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.


"Center", more than Church and House of Prayer

Shalom operates mainly as Church and House of Prayer, but is much more than that. It is also a center of diverse ministerial activities; of prophecy and vision; of Bible study; of seminars, conferences and school of prayer; of corporate intercession, strategic reconnaissance and warfare. It is a place of personal ministry and counseling for revival and empowerment, of physical and emotional healing and deliverance, of breaking of spiritual bondages, and a spiritual refuge for those who seek more of the Face of the Lord Jesus Christ. However, above all, Shalom Center is a place of abandoned worship and soaking in the presence of the Holy Spirit and divine peace.
